in the debate last night. you talk about health-care stocks. let's take a look. there was a lot of criticism by romney of the obama health-care program, so we saw hospital stocks like tenet and ata fall by 2%, humana up there, and looking at health insurers like billionpoint also responding on the upside so what were you telling your clients today what to do with the health care stocks? >> well, one of the things we've been tracking as the corelation between health-care stocks in general and the possibility of obama winning a re-election versus romney, the challenger coming in and wing. and what happens is there is a divergence. health care in general tends to do okay if people think romney is going to be re-elected and that is overall. but health care really breaks down to the service providers like the hospitals. which would actually severely benefit quite a bit if obama care continued on as planned. but if we had someone like romney come and take over and you know do what he says to get rid of obama care the folks who provide service are certainly going to be adversely affected. the folks

not be at the core of the debate. the health-care programs are a significant concern. in fact, one of the interesting things is that if we had a health-care system that was as efficient as some of the european health-care systems, we would have no deficit. so that in fact it's the inefficiency of our health-care system that is a major cause of our deficits. so my mind our focus should be -- >> to make it more efficient. >> and the health-care reform passed by the congress did it do that. >> it was a move in the right direction. >> didn't go far enough. >> it didn't go far enough. and some of the things are going to take awhile. look there was a lot of pushback from the say the pharmaceutical industry. one of the things is that in the bill that was passed that provided for the drug benefit there was a provision that gave the drug companies huge amounts of money. that was cut back just a little bit. health insurance companies still get excess profits. so we have a lot of that in this part of the health-care system that we could take out. the problem is that the kinds can of proposals that say ryan put

and what that will do, including what ryan says about vouchers. >> well, the whole healthcare debate was a pretty good proxy for the larger debate. romney had his five points against the president. he talked about these panels which there's a panel called death panels. he talked about the $716 billion cut. the president's response was he kind of backed into his response figuring he would explain it and everybody would be smart enough to see the absurdity of mitt romney but he was not clear and on point. particularly on this voucher question, and what romney would propose with paul ryan to do to medicare. i mean, this is where i heard from a couple republicans well now we're on to medicare and this is where the president will just clobber him because it's an issue that's very sensitive and it's one in which mitt romney basically if we get back to this question in secrecy, romney's answer to how are you going to do this, how are you going to cap the ryan of healthcare inflation without hurting quality he basically says well the free market will figure that out which is to say there's n

really distracting and really unclear, in fact, untrue statements about healthcare where he said i am for coverage for preexisting conditions, his people later on said he wasn't and he said, in fact, before that he never was really for covering preexisting conditions unless, you know, it is paid for, ahead of time during, you know, continuing coverage, and a couple of times in the last week he said things like well if you get sick we won't let you die in your apartment and get you to er and yet came on last night talking about a national health plan he had which he really doesn't have. i thought he got away with a lot of things showing sympathy for social security recipients when in the tape recently exposed it was clear he had no sympathy for people he sees as parasites so i just thought the president, he didn't use his synapse and bring out things that weren't brought up by someone else and didn't really clarify what the difference was between what romney was saying last night and what he said in the very recent past. >> rose: so how do you explain the fact that the president did no
